Privacy
Oldschool MU is a free hobby server run by one person. This page says, in plain words, what is kept about you and why. Nothing is sold, shared for advertising or used to track you across other sites.
What is kept
- Your account: the ID you choose and your password. The password is stored only as a scrambled value (a salted hash); nobody, including the person running the server, can read it.
- Your e-mail address: only if you add one. It is used for one thing: sending you a link when you ask to reset your password.
- Your characters: everything you do in the game that the game has to remember: names, levels, items, guild, position.
- Your internet address (IP): the game and the website record the address you connect from. It is used to stop password guessing, mass sign-ups and cheating, and to find faults.
- Your Discord account: only if you link it yourself on the account page. Then the number of your Discord account is stored next to your game ID. You can remove the link at any time.
What others can see
Character names, levels, player kills, equipment and guilds are shown on the ranking and character pages, and a character page also shows the day the character was made and the map it was last on. Your account ID, e-mail address, internet address and Discord link are never shown.
Cookies
The website sets two small cookies: one that keeps you signed in while you use the site, and one that remembers your language. There are no advertising or tracking cookies and no outside scripts.
How long it is kept
- Your account and characters: until you ask for them to be deleted, or the server closes.
- Website and server logs: about two weeks.
- Backups of the game database: up to 14 days on the server and up to 30 days in a private, encrypted copy kept in case the server is lost.
Your choices
You can change your password and e-mail address and remove your e-mail address or Discord link on your account page; characters are deleted in the game. To have a whole account deleted, or to ask what is stored about you, write to the staff on the Discord server.
Until the Discord is open, use the report form and choose "Something else". Report a problem
